Description

This lithographed broadsheet map of Illinois was created by the Greenwalt Printing Company in Topeka, Indiana and issued by J.C. Pierce, a commodities dealer in Malta, Illinois. It’s fascinating to consider how these independent businesses operated in such small towns (both had populations of roughly 500 in 1910) and how they would have coordinated such a production. The map is interesting because it appears to be made expressly for this publication, listing counties, townships, and numerous small towns in a charming hand script font. Advertisements are lined vertically on the right side, including a few for Pillsbury’s flour.
