Description
This fun little postwar guide map of San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Park was drawn by Hugh Mooney in 1947 and published locally by the Board of Park Commissioners. Issued at a scale of 1 inch = 500 feet, the image provides a detailed overview of the grounds and their numerous activities. The De Young Museum, Roald Amundsen’s ship Gjoa, the Fuschia Garden, and Strybing Arboretum are just a few of the unique offerings. Several of the structures, including the police stables, yacht club, and archery field were constructed by the Works Progress Administration during the prior decade, when the park was experiencing extreme financial duress.
