Description
This inviting map of Fargo, North Dakota and its sister city, Moorhead, Minnesota, was issued near the end of World War II by local Radio Station WDAY. The date is alluded by the amusing welcoming text in the upper right, an excerpt of which reads – “300,000 Persons purchased passenger tickets here during 1944 for points outside of this vicinity. Not bragging, but we do get around.”
Though perhaps this can be interpreted as locals fleeing the city, notorious for its frigid winters! The Red River bisects the two towns, both of which were enjoying periods of growth and economic expansion. Prominent highways and railroad lines are highlighted in red, with numerous regional destinations noted via their respective routes. Important buildings are also outlined – 125 in total are identified in the accompanying lists of schools, churches, government offices, recreational faculties, and transportation depots. The location of the WDAY Studio is noted with a large star.
WorldCat notes 4 examples as of June 2024, the entry to which lists the publication date as 1947. OCLC# 872526757
