Description
This simple, but effective, map of downtown San Francisco was issued by the Travelers Aid Society, probably in 1960 as part of the Bay Area United Crusade. It provides an easy-to-navigate street plan that highlights the location of transportation hubs, public buildings, and other facilities that might be used by those in need.
The Travelers Aid Society traces its roots to an 1851 organization founded in St. Louis to aid pioneers with their journey westwards. It developed into a charity group that coordinates transportation services and assistance for travelers in distress or at risk, especially women and children.
