Description

This straightforward map of Chicago was published in the early 1940s by the Chicago Surface Lines, possibly as a reference guide for local workers during World War II. The image shows the complex network of transit options comprised of streetcar lines, trolley bus lines, gas bus lines, street car tunnels, and rapid transit lines (including elevated railways).

Parks, forest preserves, and cemeteries are also identified according to the legend in the lower left. Various other locations of interest like the Union Stock Yard, Municipal Airport (Midway), Chicago State Hospital, and the Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium are also labeled.
