Description
This striking woodcut map, originally featured in the April 27, 1861, issue of Harper’s Weekly, represents one of the first widely distributed overviews of the American Civil War’s famous opening engagement. Published just about two weeks after Major Robert Anderson’s surrender, the map delineates the tactical nightmare of Charleston Harbor, where the isolated Fort Sumter was caught in a concentration of fire from Confederate batteries at Moultrie, Johnson, and Cummings Point.
