Description
This detailed geological examination of the surface of the moon was compiled by R.J. Hackman using the latest available astronomical data from NASA, the USGS, and the USAF. It shows a colorful overview of the Kepler Region, best known for its large impact crater of the same name. The primary geologic map is accompanied by a detailed key and explanatory notes, as well as a cross section of the region in the lower center.
The map was published as plate I-355 (LAC-57) in the USGS Geological Atlas of the Moon, issued as a series of loose sheets over more than a decade. This example, signed on the original envelope, was owned by Howard Paine, former Art Director for the National Geographic Society. It was acquired directly from his widow.
