Description

Both luxurious accommodations and state-of-the-art construction technology are celebrated on this colorful cutaway diagram of the M.S. Oslofjord. The ship was constructed in Amsterdam in 1949 for use by the Norwegian America Line, who she would serve for nearly twenty years before being sold to the Greek Line and renamed the M.S. Fulvia.

The image presents four spacious passenger decks, with distinctions between each in terms of cabin sizes and amenities somewhat obfuscated, giving the impression of greater equality than in reality. Even so, the clothes adorned by each passenger loosely reflect their expected social status. Ample storage space is occupied by automobiles, victuals (including a meat locker), luggage, and other supplies. For recreation, there are multiple swimming pools, parlors, and sun decks. In total, eighty different components are numbered and labeled throughout the ship.

Printed in Leiden by Rotogravure, likely shortly after the ship was launched – around 1950.
