Description

This eye-catching view of Los Angeles was drawn by Brian Warrensford (artist’s signature, lower right) and published in 1974 by Sentinel Guide Publications on behalf of the Southern California Visitor’s Council. A color palette reminiscent of the Wild West shows an interesting perspective of the ‘City of Angels’ looking east to the Santa Monica Mountains.

Various neighborhoods and points of interest are labeled throughout and numerous iconic buildings can be distinguished amid the dense illustration. A note in the lower left identifies the new location of the J. Paul Getty Museum, moved to a recreated Roman villa in the Pacific Palisades the same year as publication.

Twenty-two bright contemporary advertisements comprise the border surrounding the map. These promote a diverse array of businesses including hotels, restaurants, and transportation services. Additional ads can be found on the verso.
