Description

Situated about 20 miles west of downtown Chicago, the area around modern-day Lombard, Illinois was first settled in the late 1830s and grew steadily after the 1848 arrival of the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1869 and was home of Ellen Martin, the first woman to vote in Illinois in 1891, and numerous other Chicago socialites.

This map of Lombard was published anonymously in 1959, but based on the composition it may have been issued by the local Chamber of Commerce. A simple street plan identifies major transportation routes and locations of interest. A street index is provided at the bottom and 18 advertisements comprise the border. Each represented business, ranging from pizza joints to real estate offices, is numbered within the image.
