Description

Inviting it’s readers to Linger Longer in San Diego, this charming pictorial map illustrates many of the activities and attractions that would encourage them to do so. Thirty separate places of interest are numbered on the left side and circled within the map’s image. Historic sites, public buildings, recreational opportunities and local parks are all identified and many are drawn to match.

A table of temperatures in the lower right shows data from the U.S. Weather Bureau in 1949 and encourages the audience to “compare with your home town temperatures.” Clearly aiming to boost tourism to the region, the map was issued by the San Diego Chapter of the Motor Hotel Association of California in 1951.

The image was drawn by Mary Lloyd, and this particular example advertises for the Time Motel in La Mesa. Scarce and possibly unrecorded, with no copies identified in OCLC or elsewhere that I can find.
