Description

This attractive copperplate engraved map was published in Paris in 1751 by Robert de Vaugondy for inclusion in his Atlas Universel. It shows the historic German state, part of the Holy Roman Empire at the time of publication, bordered by the mountainous Tyrol to the south and the Kingdom of Bohemia to the north.

The Danube bisects the image from east to west, and Munich can be seen on the River Iser in the lower left. A decorate cartouche in the upper right includes imperial regalia and arms – emblematic of the electorate’s role in the Empire.
