Description
“Premier Souvanna Phouma, once neutral, has become staunchly anti-Communist. He has even OK’d U.S. bombing missions against Communist forces moving through Red held areas of Laos into South Viet Nam.”
This informational poster map was published in Washington, D.C. in 1966 by the Civic Education Service as Volume 4 Number 5 in its Headline-Focus Wall Map Series. The brightly colored image shows the divided nation of Laos in the midst of a multi-year civil war, split between the Pathet Lao rebels and government forces.
The vibrant red of Communist China and North Vietnam looms large on the border, while scattered vignettes highlight local industries, military features, and cultural elements. Descriptive text on the civil war, lower left, is organized into three categories; Land and People, A Poor, Backward Nation, and Confused Political Scene.
