Description

This finely engraved map of the Hague was published in Paris by Nicholas de Fer in 1705. It shows the capital of the Dutch Republic and county of Holland in great detail, with the numerous canals, windmills and gardens strongly associated with the Netherlands today. Several important buildings and landmarks are illustrated in profile and identified in the accompanying legend (lower left).

The upper portion of the sheet features the coat of arms of the Dutch Republic and the Hague. A misprinted engraver’s stamp can be found in the lower right, while the lower left shows a decorative cartouche and two dogs.
