Description
Cheese, wine, foie gras, salt, seafood, honey, pork, cassoulet, snails, and a variety of fruits and vegetables are featured on this vibrant post-war map of France, designed to celebrate the diverse gastronomy and abundant foodstuffs of a nation still recovering from WWII. Surprisingly, apart from a box of macarons, the famous French patisseries are largely omitted – perhaps a sign of stringent sugar supplies. Other vignettes highlight local industries, recreational opportunities, historic sites, or cultural elements – all intended to encourage tourism.
The map was designed by Willy Landelle (signed, lower left) and published in 1948 by Edition Jacques-Petit of Angers.

Condition Description: Color printed map on a somewhat toned sheet of paper, featuring light marginal wear. A 2" irregular tear in the upper center has been repaired on the verso with archival tape. Some fading from the blue color in the Atlantic. Good condition overall.
