Description
This fascinating French geography textbook was co-authored in 1908 by L. Lanier, C. Rogeaux, and A. Laborde, with publication performed in Paris by Librairie Classique Eugene Belin. Its contents offer basic lessons for a primary school audience, including physical geography, astronomy, climatology, and geopolitics. Maps, lecture topics, example questions, and historical summaries are included for most of the major nations and each continent.
Notable themes include industrialization, the French Empire (about to expand with the conquest of Morocco), and the lost territory in Alsace-Lorraine. The borders of each map of France include the Rhine River (its ‘natural’ eastern boundary), with the occupied region dutifully labeled ‘Allemagne.’ An interesting reflection of French nationalism in the years leading up to the First World War.
