King’s Island, just northeast of Cincinnati, Ohio, is one of the most popular amusement parks in North America, with nearly 4 million visitors annually. The home of ubiquitous coasters like The Beast and The Banshee had a modest start, opening on the grounds of a smaller resort called Coney Island in the summer of 1972.

The former park makes up one of the five newly available areas in King’s Island, in addition to Oktoberfest, International Street, Rivertown and the Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera. One of the park’s first attractions, The Racer, can be seen in the upper left. This dual track roller coaster is often credited with the resurgence of thrill rides throughout the 1970’s and is one of the few rides visible on the map that is still in operation today.
