Description
This charming map of Key West was issued by the local Chamber of Commerce shortly after the 1938 completion of the Overseas Highway connected the ‘Gibraltar of the Caribbean’ to the rest of the Florida mainland. Throngs of tourists were eager to take the scenic drive and hit the links, catch some sun, or cast a line.
Various features are labeled, including several military facilities like Meacham Field, the Naval Air Station, and Fort Taylor. A handful of tourist attractions are identified in an accompanying key, while red overprinting pinpoints the location of the Southern Cross Hotel. A skeleton road map of the Florida Keys is provided on the verso, with accompanying text describing major features.
