Description
Ilsa Wolfe is an artist who is still active in Wichita, Kansas, and she designed this map as a testament to the state’s scenic beauty and love of basketball. A separate pencil illustration of rolling hills and billowing clouds across the heartland is drawn into each of the 105 counties on a U.S. Geological Survey base map, giving the impression that there is more to Kansas that just roads, airports and small towns. The basketball is proudly placed over Wichita to showcase the artist’s civic pride, but it just as easily could have been spotted over Lawrence or Manhattan as meccas of the sport.
The limited edition print, of which this is copy 338/500, has been signed by the artist in the lower left.
