Description
This large and boldly colored political map of Scandinavia was edited under the direction of Ernst Kremling and published in Munich by Carl Kremling. It provides a detailed overview of the hotly contested region during the late Spring of 1940, with red overprinting noting the location of British mines laid along the Norwegian coasts in April. (The Altmark Incident is also labeled). Finland’s borders after losing the Winter War to the Soviet Union are shown, including the surrender of the Karelian Peninsula and the 30 year lease of Hanko. An inset in the lower right presents ‘An Overview Map of the North and Baltic Sea’ – a loose geographic summary of Germany’s attempts to surround and strangle Great Britain.
