Description

“This Map and Guide covers the new municipal area of metropolitan Jerusalem (since the end of June 1967), incorporating the main changes. The Historic Sites and other Highlights are marked in red. They are listed and can be located through the Marginal Indexes. Most of them are itemized on the map proper, while others are named in alphabetical order in the marginal lists…A Guide to the Main Historic Sites and Highlights is given on the reverse side of the map.” [text, upper left].

This self-descriptive guide map of Jerusalem was issued locally by Jerusalem Publications, apparently shortly after the end of the Six-Day War in 1967. Dozens of locations of interest are labeled and identified in the accompanying index.

An inset in the upper left shows details on the Old City, including approximate divisions of the four historic quarters (Armenian, Christian, Jewish, Muslim). The built area (green), countryside (tan), and green spaces shown will change drastically with increased settlement in subsequent decades.
