Description
This interesting World War II unit map traces the path of the 5th Tank Destroyer Group across the European Theater of Operations during approximately a year of operational activity (1944 – 1945). Under the command of Colonel Leslie E. Jacoby, the 5th TD GP operated as part of the XV Corps and destroyed over 1,000 enemy tanks and emplaced guns.
Four distinct campaign routes – Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe – are highlighted in black, gold, brown, and green, respectively. Locations of headquarters along each path are named and numbered chronologically. Stars representing meritorious service, along with the unit insignia, can be found in the title block.
The map was designed by a member of the 5th Tank Destroyer Group, Master Sergeant Emil E. Kulacz. Publishing was performed by the 665th Engineer Topographic Corps.
