A mathematical approach to mapping a chaotic city.

Description

Reminiscent of the maps of Herman Bollman, this fantastic view of the sprawling metropolis of Istanbul brings order to the chaos of urban planning. Each box represents an area of 570 square meters, and buildings within each are drawn as closely to scale as possible to maintain detail and legibility. This would have also been the impetus behind the placement and size of street names. Throughout the image can be found nearly 300 numbers, each corresponding to an index of locations in the upper left. On the verso is a large highway map of the entire country of Turkey and a list of traffic signs.
