Description
This uncommon booklet was published in 1943 to commemorate the WWII training of the 98th Infantry Division, nicknamed the ‘Iroquois’ since most of the members came from New York. Dozens of captioned photographs across 30 pages provide a window into the everyday life of a soldier preparing for war. After activation in 1942, the 98th drilled for a year and a half at Camp Breckenridge, KY before deployment for defense of the Hawaiian Islands. The unit was part of the planned invasion of the Japanese homeland, but was transferred to the occupation duty after V-J Day.
