The beginning of ‘The Troubles’ in Ireland.

Description
“For nearly half a century, peace prevailed in the “Emerald Isle” and the world had almost forgotten that Ireland was split between Protestant North and Catholic South.”
This informational poster map was created and produced by the Civic Education Service for Scholastic Magazines, Inc. and published by the latter in Washington, D.C. in 1969. The map, appropriately colored in green and orange, shows the political divisions between the independent Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom).
Violent conflict between Ulster loyalists (predominantly Protestant) and Irish republicans (predominantly Catholic) took place in Derry and Belfast earlier that year. Images of the destruction can be seen in the lower right, while descriptive text in the upper left predicts that the Union is Not in Sight and places much of the blame at the feet of Northern Ireland.
