[Illuminated Manuscript]

A tool for personal devotion used prior to the printing press.

This beautiful illuminated manuscript was created anonymously and likely originally issued as part of a 15th-century book of hours or psalter. These small and expensive books, assembled by hand, were invaluable tools for personal religious practices of wealthy lay individuals.
