Description

This decorative, but somewhat simple, view of the Azores was published in Paris in 1683 as part of Alain Manesson Mallet’s “Description de l’Univers.” The primary islands of the Portuguese archipelago are outlined and labeled. Several sailing ships are depicted off the coast, including a sea battle which possibly reflects European competition over the islands.
