Description

This fun pictorial map of the United States was published in New York by the Specialty Advertising Company in 1952 to promote the children’s television program, Howdy Doody. The show ran on the NBC Network between 1947 and 1960 and was a pioneer in television programming for young audiences.

The map presents illustrated vignettes in almost all of the 48 contiguous states, each displaying a charming (and occasionally stereotypical) aesthetic from the early 1950s. Other popular characters from the show, such as Heidi Doody and Phineas T. Bluster, are also featured in several of the cartoons.
