Description

“MANHATTAN IS AN ISLAND SURROUNDING THE TAFT” text on the bottom of the image boldly proclaims, and the accompanying map attempts to back it up. The hotel is illustrated at a height on par with the Empire State Building, and numerous landmarks, attractions, and transportation options are noted in the immediate vicinity.

An index of piers in the upper right corner hints that the establishment was a popular destination for travelers both foreign and domestic. Numerous photographs surrounding the map provide a visual overview of New York’s most iconic attractions.

The verso includes a number of photographs featuring the Taft Hotel’s sumptuous lobby, room interiors, coffee shop and grill. A reservation ticket is also affixed, advertising nightly room rates ranging from $2.00 (single room with running water and shared bath) to $11.00 (the largest suite, accommodating three persons).
