Description
“This commemorative poster salutes the economic revitalization of Hollywood, spearheaded by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.” – Text, lower right.
The late 1970s and early 1980s were a period of stagnation and general decline for Hollywood – rising local poverty and crime rates seriously threatened the future of the historic neighborhood. A concerted effort by the local Chamber of Commerce successfully fought back against these trends; prompting a meteoric revitalization that continues largely unabated through today.
This vibrant pictorial map is a celebration of those early efforts. An entertaining mix of civic pride and targeted advertising presents a stylized overview of Tinseltown. Iconic landmarks like the Capitol Records building, Mann’s Chinese Theater, and the American Film Institute are shown in the same distinctive style as local restaurants, retailers, and service providers. Something for everyone in Hollywood!
The map was published in 1985 by Ranlee Publishing Company of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Uncommon on the market and listed only once in WorldCat as of March 2025, at the California State Library (part of a set). OCLC# 845339416
