Description

This newspaper map published in the September 26, 1938 issue of the Chicago Daily Tribune reflects the ongoing Sudeten Crisis in Czechoslovakia.

The upper image highlights the territory that was to be incorporated into the Third Reich according to Hitler’s demands, while the lower map showcases the various defensive fortifications and military industries that were to be sacrificed by the Czech people, ostensibly in the name of peace on the continent. Text on the left side of the page provides further contemporary details regarding the ongoing negotiations, confirmed by the Munich Agreement less than a week after publication.
