Description

This lovely pictorial map of Baltimore, Maryland emphasizes prominent events, people, and locations that can be found throughout the historic city. Numerous vignettes and descriptive text outline a variety of themes; including industry, architecture, commerce, and politics. Based on the breadth of information presented within the image, significant research was required to assemble such a lively map. It was published in 1954 by the Savings Bank of Baltimore “to commemorate the enlarging and modernizing of their Banking Rooms”, according to text immediately below the title. Portraits of Enoch Pratt and Johns Hopkins, early incorporators of the Savings Bank of Baltimore, and a view of the company headquarters in the upper right provide additional advertisement for the bank’s longevity. The image was compiled and illustrated by Edwin Tunis. Source: Rumsey 8341.000
