Description
This fun bird’s eye view shows the grounds of Heritage USA, a defunct Christian-themed amusement park formerly located in Fort Mill, South Carolina. It was the brainchild of the televangelist couple Jim and Tammy Faye Baker, and around the time of publication, it was the third most popular theme park in the United States (after Disney Land and Disney World). Unfortunately, the good times were not to last for the Bakers.
In 1987 a story broke about Jim using church funds to cover up the alleged rape of his secretary, eventually leading to an IRS investigation and his imprisonment. The park’s tax-exempt status was revoked and in 1989 it officially filed for bankruptcy under the authority of Jerry Falwell. Portions of the grounds remain in use for ostensibly Christian ministry purposes, and Jim Baker later remarried and today is back on the air selling misinformation related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
