Description

Text on the back cover describes the map best (albeit it a bit dryly, true to English form). “Here on a single Scroll are the Arms of the Counties of England and Wales. The Arms of each County are painted within the confines of the County boundary forming a decorative Map. Around the Map are over nine hundred personal Arms in alphabetical order. These Armorial reproductions demonstrate the artistic wealth of the heraldic scene.”

Crests, mottos, and coats of arms have been a historically important way for individual families to showcase their achievements, as they were often awarded by one of royal standing.

The map was drawn by Dick Kelly in June of 1973 (signed lower right) and published in Ipswich by Mullins of London.
