A visual celebration of the American aristocracy (or the Old World taking credit for the New?)

Description
“American life, past and present, is a rich tapestry, and to this each individual and family makes a unique contribution.” – Text, bottom.
This majestic map of the United States celebrates the people, places, and natural beauty of the nation. Each state is represented by its own symbol (flora or fauna) and nickname. The coats of arms of numerous influential families (many with historic ties to Britain) occupy much of the negative space, with four European sovereigns prominently anchoring the corners. Somewhat strangely, members of various ethnicities are shown reverently next to the arms of Eisenhower, Washington, Kennedy, and Roosevelt – perhaps reflections of their greatest achievements?
The map was compiled in 1969 by a talented (and aristocratic-sounding) trio of Englishmen, Conrad Swan and J.C.G. George (Research and Direction) and Norman Manwaring, whose credentials are listed along the bottom of the page. Published by Pergamon Press, Inc. of New York. Printed in Exeter by A. Wheaton & Company.
