Description

This informative guide to the Century of Progress Exposition provides a detailed overview of the fairgrounds along the lakefront and Northerly Island. The World’s Fair, which began the year prior, was organized to celebrate the centennial of Chicago’s original founding and promoted an agenda of technological development and progress. The motto “Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Adapts” were words of hope for a better future in the midst of the Great Depression.

The map shows dozens of buildings, attractions, and transportation options available for the eventual 45+ million visitors who attended the fair over its two-year run. Drawn by Archer W. Hansen and published by Clarence G. Hale in Chicago in 1934.
