Description
“Just as Gulf Highway Lighthouses guide you safely along the route, so Gulf Products make your trip a pleasant, carefree one. Maps, touring information, road conditions, etc., – all yours for the asking!” – Text, lower right.
This informative road map was published in 1933 to guide motorists across the United States to the World’s Fair hosted that year in Chicago. Gulf Oil had a significant exhibit at the event (known popularly as the Century of Progress) and was encouraged to promote its presence while advertising its services along the way. The verso presents a view of the Gulf Exhibit (which included the World’s Largest Auto Cylinder), images of said services, and a plan of the fairgrounds along Lake Michigan. Text encourages the reader to ‘SAVE THIS MAP – YOU WILL NEED IT FOR YOUR TRIP HOME.’
