Description

This straightforward road map of the eastern Third Reich was published in Munich by Autokarten-Verlag, G.m.b.H., probably in late 1938 or 1939. As with many 20th-century maps from the genre, various transportation routes and locations of interest are identified using an accompanying key. Distances between cities are noted. Topography is shown pictorially, albeit only faintly, and elevation data is provided for labeled mountain peaks.

The image includes the cities of Munich, Nurnberg, Salzburg, and Linz in Germany, as well as the Czech capital of Prague. It incorporates vast amounts of territory that, prior to publication, was part of an independent Austria or Czechoslovakia. The truncated border of the latter state is shown in purple, after being abandoned by much of Europe with the Munich Agreement.
