Description

These three documents were originally published in the late 19th century as part of a bound volume of Congressional reports printed for the House of Representatives. The group consists of the following:

Volume II of Report of the Secretary of the Interior (1896): 1,118 pages bound in original leather. Contains the 1895 Annual Report of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs – a fascinating read. Contents include reports from the Commissioner, all Indian agents across the United States, the Indian School Service, and the board; with correspondence, statistical data, financial tables, and an index.

The Old Indian Settlements and Architectural Structures in Northern Central America by Dr. Carl Sapper. 20 double-sided pages of text, plus six plates (all maps and diagrams). Presents early observations on ancient Mesoamerican ruins, concentrated primarily in Mexico.

Preliminary Account of An Expedition to the Cliff Villages of the Red Rock Country, and the Tusayan Ruins of Sikyatki and Awatobi, Arizona in 1895 by J. Walter Fewkes. 31 pages of text. Includes 33 plates, with photographic views, images of artifacts, village plans, diagrams, and more.

Condition Description: Collection of three different government reports (two loose, one bound) printed in 1896. Loose reports are complete, but have ragged edges where previously bound. Bound report in full original leather, but the front cover is loose and the spine is heavily chipped and worn. Contents are about good condition. Fair to good overall for the eclectic set rescued from a dumpster.
