Description

This attractive map of the United States was designed to promote Greyhound bus lines and depicts an eclectic mix of 121 different locations of interest across the country. Well known sites like Fort Sumter and Boulder (now Hoover) Dam are seen alongside odd inclusions like the world’s rubber tire center in Akron, cotton in Texas, and several locations in Canada and Mexico that can also be accessed via the Greyhound bus routes. A helpful inset map provides details on primary and connecting routes across the country.

Greyhound published a number of similar maps promoting cross country travel as a means of recreation and relaxation, and they also serve as a fascinating reflection of America’s self image during the 1940’s and 1950’s.
