Description

The Grand-View Sanitorium was one of numerous health resorts that popped up throughout the Northeast during the 19th century. First established on South Mountain, near Wernersville, Pennsylvania, in the late 1840’s, the property quickly grew to accommodate more than 150 patients across numerous buildings.

It has an eerie history, with numerous deaths on-site (unsurprising) and a turbulent ownership record. This map of the grounds was created by John Wenrich, son of an early owner, in 1925. The year following, John’s father, Reuben, passed away and the property was almost totally abandoned. It quickly grew into a local haunt, with the chapel (number 6 on the map) especially notorious for its supposed paranormal activities.
