Description

The B.F. Goodrich Company was founded in Akron, Ohio in 1870 and began constructing rubber tires shortly thereafter. Production grew apace in the early 20th century, and promotional material such as this was issued in part to advertise, but also to encourage automobile tourism along Ohio’s developing road system.

Improved and unimproved highways are shown in bold and outlined routes, respectively, but distance information is notably absent. Helpful advice in the lower left reflects the many hazards of the early days of motor travel.

The verso features numerous advertisements for B.F. Goodrich products and services (including their maps), as well as several inset plans of major urban centers across the state.
