Description

Though the title claims that Golden Valley lies “in the heart of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area,” the map shows that it actually sits several miles to the east, near Kingman, Arizona. Geographic distortions are also present, with the state’s outline skewed to emphasize proximity to nearby recreational and transportation options. Vignettes and text surrounding the map also highlight all that Golden Valley has to offer in terms of leisure, history, and natural beauty.

The copyright owner, the Golden Valley Land Company, had a clear objective with issuing the sheet; as it hoped to encourage the purchase of their 2.5-acre land parcels. Artwork by Bob Walling with lithography by John Frank & Associates of Anaheim, California. The map is rare, and I was unable to find any market records or online references in OCLC or elsewhere.
