Description

This fun little novelty is a 20th-century reproduction of a handmade scrimshaw artifact from the 17th century. The globe, which exhibits many cartographic inaccuracies, was designed to look as though carved into bone or ivory and sits atop a modern plastic base. By turning a small metal clasp, the sphere opens into an operational sundial.

Condition: A-

Condition Description: Small hinged globe, about 4" tall and 1.75" in diameter, made from resin designed to look like ivory or bone and affixed to white and black plastic base. A small metal clasp holds the upper half shut - when opened the globe operates as a sundial. Scattered wear and soiling consistent with age and use. Good to very good condition overall.
