Description
This not-so-spooky ‘Ghost Town’ Map of New Mexico leverages the economic failures of times past to usher in a new era of historical tourism for the ‘Land of Enchantment.’ Dozens of prominent ruins, abandoned locations, military posts, Native American villages, pictograph sites, and other points of interest are labeled in red throughout the image. Retired railways and old trails are highlighted in green – generally the opposite of what is accentuated on maps!
The verso provides a comprehensive index, plus several photographs of prominent ghost towns like Golden, White Oaks, and Shakespeare. The map was prepared by Lucien Fine and published in 1964 by the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro. Distributed by the New Mexico Department of Development.
