Description

“Records of boring operations have been in demand by the public, by companies engaged in the mineral industries, by State departments, and by public bodies such as the State Electricity Commission. The results for the years 1919 to 1922 are condensed in the following pages, and it is hoped to issue the remainder within the next year.” – pg. 3.

This self-descriptive volume was compiled by Australian Secretary for Mines A.H. Merrin and printed in Melbourne by government printer H.J. Green in 1929. The contents provide a detailed overview of three years of mining boring tests across southeastern Victoria. Results from scores of boreholes are provided (some with small maps) and pinpointed in a large fold-out plan titled Gippsland Showing Positions of Bores 1919-1922. The results show large concentrations of brown coal, but relatively little otherwise in terms of precious minerals.
