Description
“Nothing is more striking in the evolution of modern medical practice than the steadily increasing recognition of the superiority of natural over artificial remedies in the treatment of the sick.” – Introduction.
This early 20th-century guide to the springs around French Lick, Indiana was authored by Dr. George D Kahlo, local medical director and ex-President of the Indiana State Medical Association. Kahlo prepared the booklet to highlight the alleged restorative properties of the baths, springs, and bottled drinking water available throughout the area.
Sixty-four pages of text, photographs, maps, and color plates offer an interesting mix of medical treatise and promotional guide. Advertisements for Pluto Water, the bottled version available for sale at druggists across America, are also included.
