Description

This colorful map showcases one of the United States’ most precious natural resources – its trees and forests. The central image shows the distribution of the various forested regions across America, with insets of Alaska and Hawaii. Numbers reference 28 different species of tree that are commercially important to various related industries.

Interesting illustrations of each comprise the border. Rather than showing the tree in its entirety, only the trunks and leaves are represented – possibly a deliberate method designed to appeal to the audience?

Produced in the 1960s by American Forest Products Industries, Inc.; originally a producer of wooden boxes that developed into a large corporation overseeing timber land, sawmills, and lumber yards.
