Description

This map was designed to be distributed at Esso Gas Stations throughout the U.S. and focuses on the country’s myriad of myths, legends and tall tales. Recognizable characters from fact and fiction can be seen from coast to coast, plus on inset maps of Alaska and Hawaii. The Headless Horseman, Abraham Lincoln, Johnny Appleseed and the heroes of the Alamo all make an appearance alongside such representations of the American spirit like pioneers, cowboys, and prospectors and Native Americans.

On the verso can be found a more practical road map to the United States, in addition to an explanation of the various illustrations depicted on the image. This is a fascinating overview of the rich romantic history that defines a significant portion of the American identity.
