Description
This colorful celebration of the Pan-American Union was designed by F. Haase and copyrighted in 1940 by the R.R. Bowker Company of New York. The twenty-one participating nations of the international trade agreement, signed fifty years prior to publication, are captured within the decorative border of flags and major industries. Canada, part of the British Empire and then at war with Germany, is notably omitted from the organization and the image.
Small vignettes highlight important exports, ranging from corn to petroleum. Historic events and battlefields are also noted. A block of text in the lower left offers a distinctly Westernized historiography of the hemisphere, surrounded by busts of famous leaders. The Aztec Sun Stone adorns the top of the title cartouche as a fitting representation of American culture.

Condition Description: Color printed map on a single-sided sheet of thick paper. Three smudges darken parts of the legend (lower right) and there is moderate toning and a few spots visible in the margins. Good to very good condition overall.
